KARACHI: An infant was seriously injured after an incubator was set on fire at the National Institute of Children's Health (NICH) in Karachi on Thursday, ARY News reported.
The director, NICH, confirmed the incident and said the incubator caught fire inside the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) and a newborn girl was burnt.
The administration says an investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the tragic incident.
Hospital sources said the incubator caught fire due to a short circuit.
Earlier in June 2012, at least seven newborn babies died and 9 others suffered severe burn injuries after a fire broke out in the nursery section of the service hospital in Lahore.
According to reports received, more than 26 critically ill children, including underweight and premature babies, were undergoing treatment in the nursery section when the ward caught fire.
